- Harley Davidson Oil Filter Removal Facts!!!! -

If you own a Harley Davidson that's less than a dozen years old and do your own
oil changes, you know how messy the process can be. Even with drain funnel tools
and using various "home remedies" such as plastic jugs and aluminum foil there is
no way to get that old oil filter out of there without getting oil all over your motor.
The Dealerships know this and the Harley Davidson factory knows this... and since this
less than optimal design has yet to be improved one can only assume that the MoCo does
this to discourage owners from doing their own routine maintenance.

The Dealerships solve this problem by giving your bike a "complimentary" wash that
of course you pay for. Most owners view the "free bike wash" as a nice little extra.
But most would be horrified to see oil gushing all over their sparkling clean Harley
and knowing that the "free bike wash" was mostly because the Dealership needed to clean
off all of the spilled oil from their bike! If you've ever changed your own oil on
a newer Twin cam or Sportster model Harley Davidson, you know what we're talking about here.

There's big profit in charging $300+ for "scheduled maintenance" that consists mostly
of performing various visual inspections and doing an oil/filter change. And since these
"service intervals" need to be done every 5,000 miles or so, that's a fair heap of wampum
every year especially if you actually ride your bike and take a few trips on it every year!

If you're putting on 10,000 or more miles a year, which is fairly typical of Harley
owners, that comes to a cost of $600-$800+ per year just for oil changes! That, in
our humble opinion, is insane!

This problem can be easily and relatively inexpensively solved by installing an oil
filter relocation kit.
