MOTORCYCLE LUBRICATION: Facts, fiction and folklore

Does your brand new Harley "use" a lot of oil? The facts about SYN3 oil.

Federal law prohibits any company, including Harley Davidson, from voiding your
warranty if you use something other than Harley Davidson branded lubricants. Our profit
is pretty much the same whether you use Amsoil, Mobil 1, Syn3 or something else.
But you will DEFINITELY notice the difference about ten seconds after you ride off
with Amsoil in your bike. Your motor will run smoother, quieter and cooler. Your
transmission will shift a LOT easier. And your chaincase will be much more quiet.
And after a thousand miles of riding, you'll notice that you DON'T have to add 1/2
quart of oil in between oil changes because Amsoil is a LOT less volatile.

Is your Dealer or Independent shop draining *ALL* the old oil from your Harley
Davidson when they do their $150 oil change? For a small up-charge, we will!
Ask about our "TOTAL OIL CHANGE SERVICE".

We called around the Portland/Vancouver area to find out what shops and Dealerships
are charging for a Harley Twin Cam oil change. The *BEST* price we could find (4/8/11)
was over $150 for an oil and filter change using conventional oil. Most were more and
sometimes a LOT more, especially if you wanted full synthetic oil that wasn't SYN3
(Note that SYN3 is *NOT* a full synthetic... it is a 60/40 lubricant that contains
a LOT of group I and group II petroleum components). In addition
*NO ONE* would do a Harley oil change without an appointment.

An appointment? For an oil change?!?!!?

HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTOR OIL AND FILTER CHANGE
USING FULL SYNTHETIC, VERY HIGH QUALITY OILS AND FILTERS
-
INCLUDES A BASIC FLUID ANALYSIS SCREENING

$69.95!
$69.95 is our price for doing an oil and filter change using our "House"
conventional oil which is certainly an "OK" lubricant that meets all of
the manufacturers requirements. We can also install HD-360 for a small up
charge if that's what you want to use. But, as you know, Harleys
are air cooled motors and *HIGHLY* benefit from the use of a full synthetic
lubricant. This is not a "bait-and-switch" tactic, but you may find the extra
bucks well worth the investment to go with a full synthetic.

Your Harley will run a LOT cooler and the oil will break down a LOT slower
if you run a full synthetic.

$79.95!
Most Harley Davidson Big Twin Models
Including the popular 88 and 96 CI Twin Cam motors
And Sportsters

Drain and replace motor oil and oil filter
High quality 20W-50 full synthetic oil and very high quality oil filter
NOTES: Manufacturer recommends 20W-50 CF service rated oil for all three holes
but many Harley Owners (including us) have their own preferred brand, including
Harley's own branded SYN3 oil which we are happy to accommodate.

We carry a wide variety of very high quality lubricants and filters including
the very popular Red Line lubricants. We can substitute our house brand for your
brand oil/filter choice for a small up-charge.

Regrettably, due to the disruptions in the Arab World, there is a $1.00 per quart
of oil used surcharge, which is an extra cost that our suppliers are imposing on us.
This surcharge will add around $4 to your oil change cost and will go away as soon
as this latest, phoney "energy shortage" goes away.

When comparing prices, remember that a screening analysis of your used oil is
included in the above prices.

$99.95!
Motor oil, oil filter and transmission oil change

Same as above but includes replacing your tranny oil with a very high
quality GL-1 rated, full synthetic lubricant. We do offer Red Line Transmission
fluid and 75W-140 hypoid gear oils for those who want them but owners should
be advised that Harley Davidson does not recommend GL4/5 lubricants in their
transmissions.

If you only want your transmission oil changed, the price for that is $34.95.

$119.95!
Motor oil, oil filter, transmission and primary oil change

Same as above but includes replacing your primary oil with a very high
quality GL-1 rated, full synthetic lubricant. We do offer Red Line Primary
fluid and various gear oils for those who want them but owners should
be advised that Harley Davidson does not recommend GL4/5 lubricant use in their
wet clutch primary.

If you only want your primary oil changed, the price for that is $34.95.

- THE SMALL PRINT -

This should be fairly obvious, but we are not a Harley Davidson Dealership nor an
authorized Harley Davisdon installer, reseller, distributor or service center.
All Harley Davidson and Harley related brands, trademarks, copyrights and so on are
the sole property of the MoCo. We make no attempt to and are definitely not associated
with the Harley Davidson Motorcycle Company in any way. We simply do fluid changes
on all brands of motorcycles including those manufactured by Harley Davidson.

The above prices apply to most Harley Davidson models.

Most shops and dealerships charge *WELL* over $150 to do an oil change and most require
an appointment a week or more in advance. For the most part, fluid changes are a
sideline for these folks... they are not lubrication experts. They typically
use "average quality" lubricants that they are able to buy in bulk at a low cost.
And their "while you wait" service may well include a LOT of waiting....

We do not disparage our competition but motorcycle lubrication is our passion, not
a side business. Even our low cost "House" brands are typically MUCH better quality
products than the stuff most shops offer. Riders who really understand and care about
lubrication come to us because they know that we only use the best lubricants that are
out there.

We'll start work on your Harley as soon as you show up, with or without an appointment.
The oil change will take 20 minutes or so.. You'll be down the road with a smile for
something VERY close to our advertised price. Is that a deal or what?

What does "Express oil change" mean?

We don't believe that nickel-and-diming customers is the way to build a business.
If you need "something special", a drain plug washer or whatever, you'll still be out
the door with a smile for something very close to these advertised prices.

If you're not totally happy, you won't come back and you won't recommend us to your friends.
"Doing The Right Thing" is good for you and it's good for us!

We will change your old oil FAST and for a lot less dough than you'd pay most anywhere else!
All of our lubricants meet and usually far exceed Manufacturer's recommendations.

If you are running extended drain interval oils or just want to know the condition of
the oil that's currently in your bike, drop by for a free, no obligation analysis!
